The Aftermath
This piece is not a typical subject for me, but I enjoyed painting this immensely. It is based on a photograph of a dinner that my parents made and ate early in 2020, prior to the pandemic. While I intended to paint this photo from the moment I received it from my mother, I sat with it for quite a while, and thus my experiences this year informed its execution. Both the subject and its title are evocative and could be interpreted in a variety of ways—I invite you to explore the meaning of this piece in context of your experience of this tumultuous year.
